Cabbage Tree Cottage B&B

We have to take a break from the BnB just now, while we focus on restoring the family home. Please have a look at The Old Coach House or Ash House, listed under Accommodation.

While Linda and Mike usually enjoy sharing the comfort of their home with guests (a separate bedroom, bathroom and separate toilet), this option is temporarily unavailable, but the Old Coach House may be just what you’re looking for.  As a foodie and an artist with a love of good humour, chocolate and wine (roughly in that order) we’ll be happy to discuss how we can make your visit to the Staging Post comfortable and enjoyable.

“If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world”
— JRR Tolkien

Whether you need a little nurturing or just want some peace and quiet, The Staging Post offers a warm welcome and a safe place to stop for a comfortable overnight rest, and is most suitable for a relaxed rural retreat weekend.
Drape yourself over a comfortable piece of furniture by a fire in cooler weather, or take a stroll to see which bird-calls you can identify. Warm winter afternoons provide a chance to doze in the sun with a good book. We don’t offer Wi-Fi nowadays, but there’s good reception for mobile data. Summer opens up more outdoor possibilities like a dip in the pool or undertaking one of several walk options. There’s a cool 25 minute exploration of the campground gully along the “Fantail Trail” or a more challenging walk over the farm to enjoy some panoramic views. Off farm there’s a beachcomber’s stroll along the coast of the Conway Flat (15 minutes away by car) or the free Peninsula Walkway in Kaikoura (45 minutes drive north)

Cabbage Tree Cottage B&B used to be shared with a West Highland terrier family referred to as “the wee white antidepressants”, so of course we’re pet friendly but please be sure to read our “pooch policy” if you’d like to consider that option.

My stays at Cabbage Tree Bed and Breakfast have been a highlight of the last few years for me. I first visited in 2012 when my daughter and son-in-law walked the Kaikoura Track and have returned from Christchurch for a visit each year since then. Linda and Mike are very hospitable people who have made me feel very welcome. As well as going for walks around the farm, I enjoy sitting on the veranda in the sunshine looking across the farm to the hills. When the sun goes down or when it rains, there are comfortable chairs in front of a warm fire. The excellent meals are accompanied by very good conversation with Linda and Mike. All in all, this is a wonderful place to experience farm life in great company.
